Learn Draft Horse How-Tos On The Farm

Harnessing a draft horse, handling and working as a team are part of the learning in an all-day workshop presented by the Pfeiffer Center, Chestnut Ridge, NY, on June 5. Mac Mead, program director, will present the role of horses on a farm.
After reviewing the basic nature and care of the draft horse and its harness and equipment, the focus will move from the classroom to the barn, where attendees will get hands-on instruction and practice in the tasks of grooming and harnessing.
In the field, attendees will try their hands at several practical tasks, such as logging, plowing, disking, and working raised beds.
Mead has farmed and gardened biodynamically for more than 30 years. He was raised in the Connecticut River Valley and graduated from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania. He was the resident farmer at the Fellowship Community’s Duryea Farm from 1997 until 2005, and has directed the Pfeiffer Center since 2007.
Fee is $95 for the all-day seminar, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more details call (845) 352-5020; e-mail
